tournament. It is a Massachusetts basketball event for middle school athletes (boys
and girls) in Grades 5-8. The tournament exclusively features (and requires)
PERSON-TO-PERSON DEFENSE ONLY by all teams - encouraging the
development of individuals in the fundamentals of the game.
The 2011 participants included (100) one-hundred teams, from local communities
including Arlington, Bedford, Belmont, Burlington, Concord-Carlisle, Ipswich,
Lexington, Medford, Reading, Somerville, Stoneham, Wakefield, Watertown and
Winchester. Over one-thousand (1000) athletes participated in the 2011 tournament
and for the first time included Medford, Arlington and Lexington as a co-partners.
The tournament is managed by the Winchester Basketball Association (WBA). It is a
501c3, non-profit organization that continues to support the development and
promotion of recreational, Massachusetts basketball for both middle-schoolers,
young adults and adults.
In addition to the tournament, WBA is responsible for supporting local adult
basketball activity, weekly basketball clinics for grades 3-8, and participating in the
development and refurbishment of new and existing basketball facilities in the town
